COREL DRAW HANDOUT



INTRODUCTION TO COREL DRAW

Corel draw is an application designed by Corel Cooperation. It is a package specially designed for designing of different types of shapes. Corel Draw comes in different version. They includes:- Core Draw 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15 etc.

DEFINITION:- It can be defined as a graphical software used in creating different types of designs such as ID cards, Contact Card, Letter heading, Flyers, Invitation cards, NNPC logo, NLG, Shell, Red cross society, EPCL etc.

STEPS TO LAUNCH COREL DRAW

1.    Click on start button
2.    Click on All program
3.    Click on Corel graphic suite
4.    Click on Corel 11, 9,10,13, 12 etc

DESCRIPTION OF WELCOME DIALOGUE BOX

1.    New:- It is used to open a blank environment for graphical manipulation
2.    Open last edited/recently used:- It is used to open the last job created and saved in Corel Draw.
3.    Open:- It opens all the jobs saved in Corel Draw.
4.    Templates:- It contains already made backgrounds.
5.    Corel Tutor:- It teaches Corel Drawwhen connected to the internet.
6.    What’s new:- It opens special features about a particular software.

SCREEN ELEMENTS OF COREL DRAW

1.  Title bar:-As the name implies, it contains the name of the program and file      a user is working with.
2.  Menu bar:-it contains all the commands or instructions used to    communicate with Corel draw.
3. Standard bar:-it is a shortcut bar which gives easy access to commands.
4. property bar:-it displays the property of selected item. It changes with    change in effect.
5. Tool bar:-it contains all the tools used in manipulating graphics.
6. Colour palette:-it contains different colours used in modifying graphics.
7.  Print frame:-it is an environment used for printing graphics in Corel draw.
8.  status bar:-it displays detail information concerning the environment a user is working with.
9.  task bar:-This is termed to be the footer bar.it displays the start button with date and time.

TOOLS USED IN COREL DRAW

1.pick tool:-it is the first tool in the tool box menu.It is used to select an object
2.  Shape:-It is basically used to reshape an object.
3.  Erase tool:-it is used to clean some parts of an object.

5.  Zoom tool;-It is used to enlarge to enlarge or reduce the viewing size of an object
6.  Freehand tool:-It is a tool used to draw straight lines and other objects.
7.  Bezier tool:-It is also used to draw lines and other objects
8.  Rectangle Tool:-It is used to draw rectangle and square.
9.  Eclipse tool:-It is used to draw circles and oval shape.
10.Polygon tool:-It is used to draw objects made of polygons e.g          hexagon, pentagon, nonagon e.t.c
11.Spiral tool:-It is used to draw objects made of revolutions.
12. Basic Shapes:-It contains different tools or shapes.
13.TextTool:-  It is basically used to manipulate or edit text in Corel Draw.
14.Interactive Transparency Tool:-It is used to reduce the sharpness of an       object.
15.         Outline Tool:-It is use to adjust the outline of an object.
16. Fill Tool:-It is used to modify the colour of an object with different        colours.

SELECTING OF AN OBJECT OR OBJECTS:-It is a process of preparing an object(s) in order to apply a given command on it.

HOW TO SELECT AN OBJECT:-An object can be selected simply by clicking on it.

TO SELECT MULTIPLE OBJECTS:

1.    Click on the first object\
2.    Press down the shift key
3.    Click on the subsequent objects.

DUPLICATING OF AN OBJECT:-It is a means of splitting an object into different segment.

METHODS OF DUPLICATING OBJECTS

Using the keyboard:-Simply select the object and press Ctrl D. or press the Plus key (+)

Using the mouse:- Click and drag the object and then alternate it with the right mouse button.

GROUPING OF OBJECTS:-This is a method of combining two or more objects to form a single object.

HOW TO GROUP OBJECTS.

1.    Select the objects
2.    Click on arrange
3.    Click on group

PRACTICAL APPROACH TO GRAPHICS

With the aid of the tool box, draw the following objects:

1.    Rectangle:- Apply red fill colour and blue outline colour
2.    Rounded rectangle:- Apply pink fill colour and black outline colour.
3.    Triangle:- Apply green fill colour and pink outline colour
4.    Straight line:-Increase the outline to 4pt and apply pink outline colour.
5.    Curve:-Increase the outline to 4pt and apply yellow outline colour.
6.    Circle:-Apply purple fill colour and black outline colour.
7.    Arc:-  Apply red outline colour
8.    Pie:-Apply yellow fill colour and green outline colour.
9.    Save the graphic.

TRIM, INTERSECT AND WELD:-These are commands used to produce a new shape.

Draw the following objects and apply Trim, Intersect and Weld.


STEPS TO APPLY TRIM, INTERSECT AND WELD

1.    Select the objects you want to apply any of the commands.
2.    Click on Arrange menu
3.    Click on shaping
4.    Select any command of your choice.

ALIGN AND DISTRIBUTE:- These are commands use to position objects perfectly to a preferred location.

STEPS TO ALIGN AND DISTRIBUTE

1.    Select the objects to align
2.    Click on Arrange menu
3.    Click on Align and Distribute
4.    Select any Alignment option of your choice.

ORDER:- It is basically used to reposition an object.

STEPS TO ORDER AN OBJECT

1.    Select the object to order
2.    Click on arrange menu
3.    Click on order
4.    Select any option of your choice.

FIT TEXT TO PATH:-It is used to fit a text round an object.

STEPS TO FIT TEXT TO PATH

1.    Select the text and object you want to fit to path.
2.    Click on text menu        
3.    Click on fit text to path
4.    Adjust the text until it will be properly fitted to path.

POWER CLIP:-It is a command used to place an object into another object.

STEPS TO POWER CLIP AN OBJECT

1.    Select the object you want to power clip.
2.    Click on Effect menu
3.    Click on power clip
4.    Click on place inside container
5.    Click on the object.

PAGE SETUP:-It is a command used to adjust the margins of a page in Corel Draw.

STEPS TO SETUP A PAGE.

1.    Click on layout
2.    Click on page setup
3.    Observe the necessary settings under orientation, height, width, size etc
4.    Click on ok.

PRINTING:-It is used to produce a hardcopy of a graphic.

STEPS TO PRINT

1.    Click on file menu
2.    Click on print
3.    Observe the printing options
4.    Click on print or ok.
